Product & Craftsmanship

Where are MAKETTE bags made?

Each piece is handcrafted in Ubrique, Spain, a town known for its exceptional leather artisanship.

What materials do you use?

We source from certified European tanneries, including LWG-certified leather and REACH-compliant, nickel-free hardware. All bags are lined with eco-suede and constructed for long-term use.

Are MAKETTE bags heavy?

Our bags are designed to feel substantial without being overly heavy. Every component is considered for both structure and comfort.

Do you offer vegan leather?

Not at this time. We prioritise long-term durability and repairability. Current vegan options do not yet meet our standards for strength and longevity.

What is MAKETTE’s approach to sustainability?

We believe the most sustainable product is one you keep using. Our focus is on material responsibility, modularity to reduce overconsumption, and crafting products that evolve instead of expire.

Functionality & Use

Can the Patina tote fit a laptop?

Yes, it fits a 13” laptop and other daily essentials. It also includes a removable clutch that can be used separately.

Are MAKETTE bags modular?

Yes. The Patina expands and contracts and includes a large removable clutch that functions as a second bag. The Strata can be worn in multiple configurations. Accessories such as chains or pouches are designed to be adaptable. Upcoming SLGs will expand the system further.

Will additional straps or modular components be available?

Yes. Our upcoming small leather goods collection is designed to integrate into the current system and enhance how each piece functions.

Will new items be compatible with existing bags?

Yes. MAKETTE is designed as a modular system. Each new release is developed to work with the original styles.

What do you mean by 'modular'?

For us, modular means adaptable. The way you carry changes day to day — your bag should too. We design pieces that interact, detach, and transform.

Care & Longevity

How do I care for my bag?

Avoid prolonged sun exposure and water. Use the dust bag provided. For bags with chain straps, always pack them as received to prevent imprinting on the leather. For more detailed guidance, refer to our Care Guide.

Do you offer repairs?

We offer evaluations and potential repairs for manufacturing issues within 12 months of purchase. Wear and tear due to use is not covered.

How should I store my bag?

Store it in the dust bag, filled with soft material to maintain shape. Avoid stacking with other items to prevent deformation. You can find full care instructions in our Care Guide.

Digital Passport & Transparency

What is a digital passport?

Each MAKETTE bag includes an embedded NFC chip that allows you to scan and access information about its materials, origin, and care. It’s a tool for transparency and accountability.

Where do I find the chip?

Behind the MAKETTE logo on the front of the bag.

Why does MAKETTE use digital passports?

We believe transparency builds trust. The digital passport connects each object to its full story, including certified leathers, ethical production, and care guidance. It also ensures future compatibility with authentication and resale.

About the Brand

What does MAKETTE mean?

The name MAKETTE comes from "maquette", a term used in design and architecture to describe a scale model or prototype. It reflects our belief that nothing is ever final, every piece is a study in progress.

What is Study 01?

Study 01 is our first design chapter, a foundational collection focused on modularity, movement, and refined utility. It sets the tone for how future collections will evolve.

Who is MAKETTE for?

MAKETTE is for women who move through their day with intention. It’s for those who value craftsmanship, modernity, and purpose, whether they’re building companies, exploring cities, or navigating family life. Our vision includes multiple generations: a daughter, a mother, a grandmother, each finding their own meaning and function in the same object.
