The Story of Study 01

MAKETTE designs bags and small leather goods that move with you, across hours, moods, and moments. Each piece is constructed with care and intention, balancing structure and fluidity. Our system begins with three foundational styles, designed to adapt and evolve over time. They are shaped not just by how they’re made, but by how they’re used.

We draw from disciplines where beauty and function coexist: architecture, industrial design, Bauhaus systems, and Japanese basketry. These references shape how we approach proportion, construction, and movement. This modular way of thinking defines our design process — where structure informs expression and each form holds its own personality.

Our references are grounded in systems built to last. We don’t follow seasonal trends, but we design with longevity in mind. At the same time, we pay close attention to shifts in material innovation, colour, and cultural context. Research is part of our process. It helps us stay attuned to how people live, what they carry, and what they expect from the objects they use every day.

Crafted by Tradition, Informed by Innovation

In the white hill town of Ubrique, Andalusia, craftsmanship is a lineage. For generations, families have passed down the art of leather making, cutting, skiving, sewing by hand. Today, over half the town’s population still works in leather. This is where MAKETTE is made.

We honour this place and its generational knowledge, but we also design for what lies ahead. For us, tradition is not about looking back. It is about building forward. We don’t make disposable things. We build objects we hope stay with you, adapt to your life, and carry meaning over time.

We believe the future of craft includes accountability. That’s why every MAKETTE bag includes a digital passport. More than a certificate of authenticity, it’s a way to connect each object to its origins, from materials and makers to traceability and care. It’s part of how we build trust, and part of how we make things last.
